In Faro, several cars were almost submerged, this Wednesday, due to the fheavy rainfall that caused significant flooding in several areas of the city.
On Rua de São Luís, one of the most affected, water even entered several stores. Even traders who tried to block the water from entering with improvised barriers were unable to prevent damage.
Adriano, who has lived in the area for over 20 years, tells SIC Notícias that he had never seen anything similar.
“I don’t remember a flood of this size, with cars floating. Although they made an attempt last week to drain it, today it didn’t work. I’ve never seen this street like this since I’ve lived here,” he said.
The damage is still being counted, but several losses have already been recorded.

Around 8 am, the situation began to improve, with the water draining quickly after the intervention of municipal employees, who lifted the gutter covers to help with the drainage.

O President of Faro City Council, António Pinawent to the location in the morning and recognized that this is one of the most problematic areas of the city.
“This is the main point. We have no news of there being other areas of the city with losses like here”, the mayor told SIC Noticias.

António Pina also highlighted that definitively resolving the problem is a priority and that he intends to see the work completed within a year and a half to two years.
“We must make this work our first priority. We cannot postpone its completion for another 16 years. During the handover, we learned that there is an execution project ready. We know that there is a budget to finance a project worth between four and five million euros”, he explained.
The mayor also added that he hopes to have support from the Environmental Fund so that the intervention can move forward soon, but admitted that he still wants the Order of Engineers evaluates the project so that there is certainty that “it will really work”, highlighted António Pina.
