A non-league footballer has been suspended and is being investigated by the police after an incident during a match on Saturday.
Trearddur Bay Football Club, who play in the third tier in Wales, have suspended Tom Taylor with ‘immediate effect’ after he appeared to elbow a Porthmadog player in the fact.
Footage circulating on social media appears to show Taylor elbow an opponent in the face during an Ardal North West League match at Y Traeth (The Beach) stadium in Gwynedd, sending them flying to the floor.
‘Absolutely disgusting from Trearddur Bay, Tom Taylor should get banned for life, disgrace,’ James Roberts posted on X.
Asked whether the player was punished, he added: ‘Nothing happened. The fans showed the vid the the ref but he couldn’t do anything about it because it was too late.’
Trearddur Bay released a statement on Sunday confirming they had suspended Taylor and saying the incident is ‘subject to a police investigation’.
‘Trearddur Bay FC wish to confirm that it has suspended Tom Taylor from immediate effect following an incident between TBFC and Porthmadog FC yesterday,’ the statement read.
