Foreigners buy over US$31mn worth rupee bonds this week

ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s rupee closed at 302.90/95 to the US dollar Friday, stronger from 303.00/10 the previous day, after some interventions, dealers said.

The rupee had been weakened despite record current account surpluses the central bank buying from private parties but not selling when excess liquidity turned into imports.

Only interventions in recent weeks were for the government to repay debt.

On Friday there was intervention at around 303.18 to the US dollar after deals were done at 303.20, market participants siad.

A bond maturing on 15.12.2026 closed flat at 8.30/35 percent.

A bond maturing on 15.09.2027 closed at 8.75/85 percent, up from 8.70/75 percent.

A bond maturing on 01.07.2028 closed at 9.25/32 percent, down from 9.25/35 percent.

A bond maturing on 15.12.2029 closed at 9.70/73 percent, down from 9.70/75 percent.

A bond maturing on 15.12.2032 closed at 10.50/60 percent, down from 10.50/65 percent.

A bond maturing on 01.11.2033 closed at 10.65/75 percent, from 10.70/73 percent. (Colombo/Oct17/2025- current surpluses)
