Former Joe Exotic Colleague Mauled to Death in Tiger Accident

Animal trainer Ryan Easley was confirmed to have died due to an accident during a tiger performance at an Oklahoma wildlife refuge.

According to the official statement by the Growler Pines Tiger Preserve, which confirmed his death, Easely died on September 20th, 2025.

“This tragedy is a painful reminder of both the beauty and unpredictability of the natural world. Ryan understood those risks- not out of recklessness but out of love. The animals under his care were not just animals to him, but beings he formed a connection with- one rooted in respect, daily care and love,” they said.

“His legacy will live on in the lives he touched, the animals he protected and the example he set for others who dedicate their lives to working with wildlife.”

According to reports by CNN affiliate KXII, authorities reported that Easley was performing a stunt with one of the tigers when things went horribly wrong. It resulted in him being attacked, and he was found unresponsive when deputies arrived.

As a result of the tragedy, the Growler Pines Tiger Preserve has cancelled all upcoming tours until further notice. Fans quickly gave their condolences, with one commenter explaining they had recently visited the wildlife refuge only a few weeks ago.

“We just visited with a private tour 2 weeks ago and I was so astonished with the great passion he had for all of the animals and the work he was doing to insure their care for the future. We are honored to have met and spent that one on one time with him learning and enjoying such a meaningful experience,” they said.

Many commented on the 48-year-old’s “passion” for his career and wildlife preservation, with those who worked with him praising his “knowledge and enthusiasm” as “inspirational.”

Easley formerly worked with Tiger King figure Joe Exotic and acquired several tigers from him for his own business, ShowMe Tigers.

While Exotic is currently serving time in prison, he shared, in a now-deleted Instagram post, his condolences over Easley’s death.

“Prayers go out to his family. Ryan took great care of his animals! He loved every one of those tigers and was an advocate for tigers as well as elephants,” he wrote per The Oklahoman.
