The family of a former Plettenberg Bay police detective has confirmed that the 54-year-old woman was murdered on Monday.
The body of Anneke “Nicky” van Heerden was discovered near Riverside Park along Keurbooms Beach, according to her brother-in-law, Hein Bruwer.
Visiting a friend
According to the Knysna-Plett Herald, Bruwer said the discovery was made during the early hours of Monday and confirmed that Van Heerden was previously employed as a detective at the Plettenberg Bay Police Station.
He added that Van Heerden had been visiting a friend in Plettenberg Bay, whom she had met a week earlier.
The circumstances surrounding her death remain unclear at this stage.
Man in custody
According to the family, a man has reportedly been taken into custody in connection with the incident, although no official details have yet been confirmed.
