Former president released by Trump surpasses “Chapo” or Escobar

In an interview with “Los Periodistas”, Mike Vigil stated that the pardon of the former president of Honduras, Juan Orlando Hernández, confirms that Donald Trump has no real interest in fighting drugs.

Mexico City, December 3 (However).- Mike Vigilformer DEA Chief of Operations, stated that the former president from Honduras, Juan Orlando Hernandezwho received a pardon from Donald Trump, is a bigger drug lord than Joaquín Guzmán Loera or the same Pablo Escobar, because it had all the control of the Government to operate freely.

“Trump has now freed one of the biggest drug traffickers, he is bigger than ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán, he is bigger than Pablo Escobar, why? Because ‘Chapo’ Guzmán and Pablo Escobar were not presidents, he had all the power of the presidency,” said Mike Vigil in an interview with Alejandro Páez and Álvaro Delgado on the program “The Journalists” which is broadcast through the YouTube channel of However On Air.

The former Chief of Operations of the DEA pointed out that Trump’s decision “makes no sense” because it contradicts his speech against drug trafficking and makes American justice look ridiculous.

“He gives a pardon to Juan Orlando Hernández who was President for eight years in Honduras, who turned Honduras into a narco-State, he was accused of importing 400 tons of coca to the United States. His brother Tony Hernández was sentenced in the United States for drug trafficking to life imprisonment. This makes the United States justice system ridiculous in front of the international community, it despises the DEA and the federal prosecutors who carried out the investigation and trial.”

Juan Orlando Hernández was pardoned by Donald Trump’s government even though he facilitated the transit of more than 400 tons of cocaine to the United States and received millions of dollars in bribes from drug trafficking, including one million dollars from Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán Loera.

Washington alleged that from around 2004 to 2022, Hernández participated in a corrupt and violent drug trafficking conspiracy to facilitate the importation of hundreds of thousands of kilograms of cocaine into the United States. The Justice Department even noted that Hernández received millions of dollars to use his public office, law enforcement and the military to support drug trafficking organizations in Honduras, Mexico and elsewhere.

Despite this, Donald Trump pardoned him and even claimed that according to him, he was a victim of political persecution, although he did not present any evidence to support that claim.

In this regard, the former head of the DEA insisted that the decision reveals the former Republican president’s disinterest in confronting drug trafficking.

“Donald Trump doesn’t care about fighting drugs, everything he says is pure show.”

Mike Vigil also described as false Trump’s claim that Honduran sectors celebrate the pardon. On the contrary, he said, the climate in the country is of concern.

“This man has done a lot of damage and gives him a pardon. Then he says that he spoke with many people in Honduras who said that they wanted Juan Orlando Hernández to return and it is not true, everyone is worried about this pardon because they know that if he returns to Honduras as a vengeful person he will generate a lot of chaos, who will go against people who he thinks betrayed him. It is a disaster.”

Finally, Vigil warned that Trump’s decision will have profound consequences on American justice and democracy.

“It does not benefit the United States, this has a strong impact on justice, on democracy. There are many elements of the DEA, of the state police who are worried because Donald Trump does not care about anything about the law and in reality he does not care about anything about drug trafficking, this is a political theater that he is doing to divert the attention of the people in the United States.”
