Former UN official: The Gaza court is a means of informing the world about what is happening news

A former UN official said that the “Gaza Court” is a good way to inform the international community of what is happening in the Strip, and that Israel’s cessation of its attacks does not mean the end of the Palestinians’ suffering from hunger.

In an interview with Anadolu Agency on the sidelines of the symbolic “Gaza Court” held in Istanbul, Hilal Al-Far indicated that the “Gaza Court” is a means of informing the world of what is happening from a legal and field perspective.

The former UN official confirmed that Israel used starvation as a form of genocide against the Palestinians in Gaza, adding, “People (in Gaza) are still suffering from severe hunger because hunger and starvation are a very dangerous situation.”

She added that Israel’s cessation of its attacks does not mean that their effects will end and everyone will be fine, because hunger has long-term effects, especially on young children.

The “Gaza Court” is an independent international initiative founded by academics, intellectuals, human rights defenders, and representatives of civil organizations in the British capital, London, in November 2024, due to “the international community’s complete failure to implement international law in the Gaza Strip.”

Starvation is a weapon

Al-Far explained that many organizations in the world, especially non-governmental organizations, and even some media outlets recently, highlighted Israel’s use of starvation as a weapon in Gaza.

She added, “It was not easy to draw the world’s attention to this issue because it was not on the table during the past two years. But now, the situation has changed because everything has become completely clear, especially after the United Nations declared a famine last August.”

She described the United Nations declaration of famine in Gaza as a “very important decision,” and that condemning Israel for starvation is evidence of its committing genocide. She stated that the “Gaza Court” discussed multiple crimes, one of which was starvation.

It is noteworthy that academics, human rights defenders, media representatives and civil society organizations participate in the “Gaza Court” to present their testimonies regarding the genocide in the Strip.
