A tragic car crash in Brackenfell has claimed the lives of four young adults, while two others are in critical condition following a high-speed collision over the weekend.
The accident took place shortly after 18:00 on Saturday on Cecil Morgan Drive, when a vehicle carrying six friends reportedly lost control on a bend, crashed into a tree, and burst into flames.
Emergency responders, including Titanium Securitas and local fire services, rushed to the scene.
According to spokesperson Kobus Kotze, the fire ignited immediately upon impact, making rescue efforts extremely difficult.
“Four people were declared dead on the scene. The two surviving occupants were stabilised and transported to hospital with severe injuries,” said Kotze.
The victims are believed to be in their early to mid-twenties, though formal identification has not yet been released.
Police Investigation Underway
Captain FC van Wyk, spokesperson for the Western Cape SAPS, confirmed that Brackenfell Police Station has opened a case of culpable homicide.
“The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing. We urge any witnesses or individuals with information to come forward,” said Van Wyk.
