Fox Reaches Deal To Avoid YouTube TV Blackout Before Holiday Weekend

Labor Day weekend is a time for Americans to enjoy the last bit of summer before the grind of the fall and winter. It’s also recently become the unofficial start of the college football season, and that’s no different in 2025.

Massive matchups are on offer for fans all over the country all weekend long, and no game is bigger than the meeting between Texas and Ohio State on Saturday afternoon. The game marks the season debut for highly-touted quarterback Arch Manning, and the return of the national champion Buckeyes as the Longhorns’ opponent.

The game is set to be broadcast on FOX, and for several days, it appeared that YouTube TV subscribers would not be able to watch it. FOX and YouTube TV were involved in a carriage dispute for the last several days, which meant that subscribers risked losing access to several channels.

With the college football and NFL seasons fast approaching, fans were worried that they would be locked out of one of the most anticipated games of the year. On Wednesday, YouTube TV confirmed that would not be the case.

A customer asked if the service would be keeping FOX, and YouTube TV responded on social media.

“We’ve reached a short-term extension with Fox to avoid service disruption for YouTube TV subscribers while we work on a new agreement,” the service said. “We’re committed to advocating on behalf of our members and will keep you posted on our progress.”

YouTube TV previously sent an email to subscribers preparing them for a potential outage, instructing them to log in with their credentials to the new FOX One streaming service. The company also said that it would reduce prices by $10 per month if the affected channels would be blacked out.

Fox, FS1, FS2, and Big Ten Network would be among the channels fans would lose access to, as well as FOX News, Business and Weather.

The move comes as the landscape of sports streaming is set to change in a major way over the next few months. YouTube will broadcast an exclusive NFL game for the first time this season, as it takes over the “Sunday Ticket” package once again.

The NBA will embrace two new broadcast partners when it returns this fall, with games on Amazon Prime Video and NBC/Peacock. College football is also set to be spread around several networks and streaming services as conferences and teams enter and exit exclusive agreements.

Change may be inevitable in college sports and television rights, but it seems that YouTube TV subscribers will have access to some of the biggest football games of the year after a few nervous days.
