Frame your Cape Town adventure: Seven iconic yellow photo spots

Chasing a few photo frames can be a fun activity for your next trip to the Mother City.

Did you know there are seven massive yellow photo frames in and around Cape Town? All are placed in ideal locations to capture idyllic views of Table Mountain.

So get ready to strike a pose and make a memory definitely worth framing. Read more below for a bit of a backstory behind them and where you can find them.

What are the yellow photo frames in Cape Town?

Cape Town was reportedly the first African city to be named the World Design Capital in 2014, and the installation of the yellow photo frames was a project a part of this programme.

South African artist Porky Hefer was the creator behind the frames and gave them the same yellow colour, specifically Pantone 109-C, which was the theme colour for the World Design Capital 2014. They are four metres high and 2.8 metres wide.

Here is where you can find them:

  • V&A Waterfront
  • Signal Hill
  • Eden on the Bay (Blouberg)
  • Khayelitsha Lookout Hill
  • District Six (near the District Six Museum)
  • Silo District (near the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art)
  • Summit of Table Mountain (near the Shop at the Top)

Interestingly, the recently installed yellow frame at the summit of Table Mountain reportedly replaced an older frame that was at Cape Town Station. Its installation on the summit is in honour of the New7Wonders of Nature, of which Table Mountain is one of the wonders.

Framing your Cape Town trip with large yellow snapshots is a fun and immersive way to get to know the Mother City. The frames are not just destinations to get to; discovering each one is a journey in its own. It will take you through new neighbourhoods, roads, trails, buildings, and more, and give you a true feel of the Capetonian culture and heritage.
