Mexico City, November 1 (However).- Francisco Rojas Gutierrezhistorical activist of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) and former director of both Mexican Petroleum (Pemex) as of the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), died yesterday at 81 years old.

“At Petróleos Mexicanos we regret with deep pain the sensitive death of Francisco Rojas Gutiérrez General Director of Pemex (1987-1994). We extend our solidarity and prompt resignation to family and friends for this unfortunate loss. Rest in peace,” Pemex said on X, formerly Twitter.

Rojas Gutiérrez was born on September 15, 1944 in Mexico City. He stands out for having been general director of Pemex between 1987 and 1994, during the last year of the six-year term of Miguel de la Madrird and the Administration of Carlos Salinas de Gortari.

Later, he was general director of the Federal Electricity Commission in the Enrique Peña Nieto Administration, a position he left on February 4, 2014.

In this position, he was in charge of supervising the operation of the national electrical grid during key moments for the country, at a time when the debate on energy reform was beginning to gain strength in the political sphere.

A PRI activist since the 1960s and a graduate of the National Autonomous University of Mexico, he held relevant positions in that party and in the federal government.

“Mexico lost a great politician and good man. He deeply loved his country and was always loyal to his principles and convictions,” said the coordinator of the PRI’s parliamentary faction in the Chamber of Deputies, Rubén Moreira. on social network X.
