Amber Kettring, customer service and communications manager for South Shore Line, emphasized that the courage and dedication of service members are a daily inspiration. The free rides are intended to make it easier for veterans and active-duty servicemembers to visit their families and enjoy recognition of their service.
To claim the free ride, travelers simply need to inform train crew that they are veterans or active military members. No identification is required. Additionally, up to three children under the age of 13 may travel free when accompanied by a veteran or military member on all weekend trains and during weekday off-peak hours.
The South Shore Line, operated by the Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District (NICTD), connects Millennium Station in Chicago with South Bend International Airport in Indiana. In addition to this promotion, the line offers various programs throughout the year, including the ‘Kids Ride Free’ program, which allows children to travel for free with a paying adult.
