AIKEN, S.C. (WJBF) – Some security upgrades could be coming to Aiken County Schools.
The School Board voted Tuesday, Aug. 26 to submit an application to receive funds allocated by the South Carolina Department of Education. The Appropriations Act will distribute up to $20 million to public school districts for improvements, and Aiken County has applied for about 500,000 dollars.
Leaders at the meeting talked about how the funding could make schools safer.
“Some of those areas are entryways to secure the entryways of schools, enhance window film, and door locks and some of the technology security features,” said Vicky Gaskins, Director of Security and Emergency Management of Aiken County Schools. “So those are a couple of different items that they offer the funding for. Without the state’s allocated funding and the opportunity for us to apply for that funding we may not be able to have the funding for those projects.”
We will keep you updated on the approval of those funds.
