WRIGHTSVILLE, Ga. (WJBF) – The Wrightsville Firefighter that was injured in a “bladed” attack earlier this week is on the road to recovery.
NewsChannel 6 spoke with the Chief of the Wrightsville P.D. Friday morning and he shared some new details.
Firefighter Chad Wombles’ left thumb and right hand were completely severed and had to be surgically reattached. The chief said that another surgery is scheduled for Friday afternoon.
The Wrightsville Police Officer, Jay Hood, that was there with Wombles’ last week is on paid administrative leave as the GBI investigates the fatal shooting of the suspect accused of attacking the 1st responders.
The community is coming together to help Firefighter Wombles as he recovers.
The Louisville Fire Department is hosting a Steak Sandwich Fundraiser for him next week.
