Gauteng to expect warm weather with afternoon thunderstorms – Bundlezy

Gauteng to expect warm weather with afternoon thunderstorms

Residents across Gauteng will enjoy a warm morning before thunderstorms develop in the afternoon and evening. Johannesburg’s peak temperature is set to be around 27°C. Pretoria is also expected to stay relatively warm with cloudy spells.

Forecaster Joel Guy explained that conditions will shift later in the day.

“Much of the interior will see between a 30% and 60% chance of thunderstorms this afternoon and evening,” Guy said.

Risk of Severe Thunderstorms

The South African Weather Service has issued warnings for severe thunderstorms that could extend into Gauteng, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, and parts of the Free State. These storms may produce hail, damaging winds, and intense lightning.

“Severe thunderstorms over Gauteng and surrounding provinces could produce hail, damaging winds, and excessive lightning,” Guy warned.

Communities in northern Gauteng and southeastern Limpopo should remain particularly vigilant as storm intensity could increase into the night.

Showers Spread into Mpumalanga and Beyond

While Gauteng braces for possible severe weather, neighboring Mpumalanga will also experience showers with temperatures in the mid to upper 20s. Witbank and Middelburg are expected to reach highs of around 30°C.

Despite the risks, much of Gauteng will still be “pleasantly warm with a chance of showers,” Guy added.
