Gen Z reveals when they think old age starts, and the answers are brutal

Gen Z has revealed the age they believe old age starts in a new survey, and the answers are brutal.

Beware, millennials (and all those who are sitting a little too close to that 1997 Gen Z cut-off), because, according to the 13 to 28-year-olds out there, you’re officially past your peak.

Conducted by EduBirdie, the survey saw 2,000 Gen Z and young millennials answer age-related questions.

A platform for students to hire professional writers to assist them with essays, EduBirdie also asked “young” members of Generation Y, which means those born between 1981 and 1996 – that’s anyone aged 29 to 44.

For the Gen Zers at the top of their age bracket, you might be pretty gutted to find out that three per cent of your cohort believe old age starts at 27.

Brutal, and that’s before anyone’s tried surveying Gen Alpha (kids up to 14 years old).

The mid-thirties is when Gen Z really starts to view you as past your peak though, with 22 per cent considering this the age a person becomes “old”.

Reflecting on the statistics, EduBirdie said: “Millennials are far from retirement, and Gen Zers are still the baby generation. Yet, many are certain that old age is fast upon them.

“Some 22 per cent of Gen Zers say 35 is already over the hill, while 35 per cent of millennials believe 40, which some of their generation has already reached, is the age when youth expires.”

If that was a tough read, you probably don’t want to hear that seven per cent of Gen Z believes you’re officially undesirable by 27, whilst a third think you’re well over the hill by 40.

It’s not all doom and gloom the next time you clock a birthday, though. A third of Gen Z participants also said that your age doesn’t automatically make you undesirable, and 44 per cent of millennials agree too.

So, it seems that as long as we’re all shooting our shot well within our age range, we should be okay.
