San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle was cleared for Sunday after spending the last five weeks on the injured reserve. Despite the team’s win over the Atlanta Falcons, Kittle did not record a single catch.
Quarterback Mac Jones targeted Kittle twice in Sunday’s victory, both of which the 32-year-old failed to bring in.
“You know, personally, I thought the game plan based on the walkthrough yesterday, I thought I was going to have 150 yards and two touchdowns. So, sorry Fantasy coaches and anybody that bet on me,” he said during a press conference following the game. “My bad. Blame Kyle Shanahan, not me.”
All jokes aside, Kittle gave props to the Falcons, saying, “The Falcons just did a really good job.”
“We called the plays that we thought I was going to be open on, and next thing I know there’s two to three people standing in the window,” he continued, adding that Jones “did a great job” adjusting to the coverage.
“I would love to get the football. … But, like I said, if other guys are taking advantage of the opportunity and they’re winning their one-on-ones, I’ll take it.”
The six-time Pro Bowler suffered a hamstring injury early during Week 1 against the Seattle Seahawks while running a deep route down the right sideline.
“I just felt like a rubber band snapped in my hamstring,” Kittle said of the injury. “I was like, ‘Ah, I’ve just got to go to the locker room after that one.'”
