Cooperatives “are essential for democracy in the economy”, as they can make societies more fair.
The guarantee was made by Giuseppe Guerini, president of Cooperatives Europe, at the Global Innovation Coop Summit, which is taking place in Torres Vedras. The event brings together some of the most important people in the cooperative sector, who arrive from all over the world for an event that is held, for the first time, in Portugal.
From the perspective of the person responsible, cooperatives play “a very important role, perhaps more today than in the past“, he highlights. He himself leads an organization that brings together cooperatives from the most varied sectors and, in this context, explains that the private sector currently has an increased responsibility.
Guerini emphasizes that the sector represents “a part of society that still sees the human being as being at the center, from an economic and social point of view“, which means that the well-being of populations must be the main priority, according to him.
