With Glastonbury 2025 now underway, attendees of the iconic music festival have been partaking in a ritualistic festival feast of warm beer, burger van dinners, and £5 donuts.

The festival kicked off at Worthy Farm on Wednesday, with over 200,000 guests expected over the coming weekend.

While the main event won’t begin until Friday – with The 1975, Neil Young and Olivia Rodrigo set to headline – two ceremonies marked the opening of the gates on Wednesday.

Since then, punters have begun to experience all Glastonbury has to offer – which, this year, so far includes complaints of sound issues during the opening festivities.

Since the gates opened, the festival’s price lists have also been seen by Metro’s Danni Scott, with a pint of draught beer costing between £6.95 and £7.20.

Those not at the festival have taken to social media to share their dismay at the ‘absolutely’ disgusting price of food and drink, sparking debate as to how much is too much for a bottle of wine.

As the prices of food and drink began to emerge online, users shared their sense of shock and dismay.

‘Imagine paying over £300 for Glastonbury tickets to be told it’s a further £32 for an £8 bottle of wine. 🤪 don’t give festivals your coin it’s a proper scam,’ wrote WrenSaysChill on X.

‘£32 for a bottle of plonk!’ commented andy_rushforth.

‘Price of drinks at Glastonbury 😂 I’d need a bank loan to get on it with their drinks 😂 2 double JD and cokes £24 can get a litre for that. Stick to 3 for a oner 👃🤣 ,’ said Heapy Barnacle on Facebook.

‘Robbing b*stards,’ exclaimed Chris Deakin.

‘Absolutely disgusting,’ MellyJamaicaJamaica said.

In addition to the price of drinks, food trucks can be seen offering a breakfast toastie from £8.50 – £10.00, while a burger is usually around £11.

However, the festival also offers a budget-friendly £6 meal deal – a staple for attendees since 2015, and available at over 250 of the 357 vendors.

Compared to last year, prices have been inflated by between 20p to 40p per drink.

However, other social media users have pointed out that the festival’s drink prices aren’t that out of the ordinary, nor unreasonable.

‘£7 in some pubs in city centres & £8-10 at most sporting events – good prices. Don’t like it? Bring cans!’ wrote Josh Gardiner on Facebook.

‘Beer prices are alright pay more than that a pint at the rugby stadium,’ noted Dave James.

‘Not bad as far as festivals go,’ said Hannah Michelle Garrigan.

Unlike other festivals, Glastonbury also allows attendees to bring their own food and drinks onto site – meaning no-one is forced to stick with what’s on offer in the various bars and food trucks.

Those who didn’t manage to score a ticket can watch the festival from the comfort of their own homes – with food and drink options limited only by the contents of one’s own refrigerator.

Over the next few days, acts such as Alanis Morisette, Wet Leg, Gracie Abrams, Busta Rymes, Raye, Charli XCX, Scissor Sisters, Noah Kahan, The Prodigy and Sam Ryder will all be performing.

The BBC will provide coverage from the five main stages, which consist of the Pyramid Stage, The Other Stage, West Holts, Woodsies (formally the John Peel) and the Park Stage.
