A phrase about the Nationality Law was falsely attributed by the president of Chega to Henrique Gouveia e Melo and, this Sunday, the admiral and presidential candidate came to clarify that he “never said” what was written in a post published by André Ventura on social media. “I believe that the political debate must be carried out with elevation, with truth and rationality. Unfortunately, this is not the method of Chega’s candidate for the Presidency of the Republic, who once again lacks the truth”, he said.
The false phrase, published by Chega, is this: “Removing Portuguese nationality from those who commit crimes is injustice and discrimination”. The quote is attributed to Henrique Gouveia e Melo without a source (the media outlet where it was said) or date. It was published in official Instagram account by Chega’s president a day ago and also shared on Facebook, on the page “André Ventura Support Group“, which has more than 28 thousand members. The false publication appears to have the model used by CNN Portugal on its social networks, but was not disseminated by the organization.
