Within the framework of the Fourth Transformation and in support of the initiatives sent to the Congress of the Union by the President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardothe Government of Oaxaca, headed by Solomon Jara Cruz, announces the implementation of specific actions to fight extortion from the state level, prioritizing the protection of the most vulnerable sectors.
“From Oaxacawe raise our voices to say that we will not allow this crime to continue hurting our families. That’s why, We join the vision of President Sheinbaum and we took immediate action in our territory,” declared the Governor.

Governor Jara Cruz highlighted that, within the framework of the General Law initiative against Extortionyour government is already working to strengthen coordination with the 570 municipalities to implement a state strategy that makes it possible to prevent, investigate and punish this crime, with special attention to vulnerable groups such as women merchants, migrants and young people.
Zero Tolerance to Extortion
The state strategy “Zero Tolerance to Extortion” contemplates:
· Immediate strengthening of complaints reception and monitoring systems through Line 089.
· Operational coordination with the 570 municipalities for the priority attention to cases affecting small merchantsentrepreneurial women and migrants.
· Implementation of a special program protection of young people against the crime of “fee collection.”
· Creation of specialized units in the investigation and prosecution of this crime.
“The President’s initiative is consistent with our commitment to govern for the majorities. It establishes severe penalties of 6 to 15 years in prisonbut it is also comprehensive: it contemplates aggravations when the victims are our migrant brothers or when public servants betray the trust of the people“said Jara Cruz.
The Oaxacan president stressed that, while some focus on macroeconomic indicators, his government prioritizes human security: “Extortion can come through a phone call, a threat to a small business or through a ‘drop by drop loan’.. That is why our response must be direct, forceful and close to the people.”

The Governor called on Congress of the Union to quickly approve the initiatives of President Sheinbaum“which represent a historic advance in the construction of peace and security that Mexico deserves.”
“In Oaxaca we are already working. We reaffirm our commitment to the Fourth Transformation and to the vision of President Sheinbaum to build a fairer and safer Mexico for everyone,” he concluded.
