WAYNESBORO, Ga. (WJBF)- The Development Authority of Burke County has been awarded grant funds from the OneGeorgia Authority’s Rural Site Development Initiative.
It was part of the second round of Rural Site Development Grants announced by Governor Brian Kemp last week.
The grant amount is more than $35,000 and they received a key certification for the county.
This certification is key to attracting more businesses and jobs in Waynesboro.
It’s called the Georgia Ready Accelerated Development certification, and it supports and gives permission for development in rural areas.
So now the county’s remaining 150 acres of land in the Waynesboro-Burke Industrial Park off of Highway 25 is ready for businesses.
“This allows companies, when they’re looking to locate within our community, that they can then shave off, you know, four or five months of their decision making process because they don’t have to do that. We can turn it over and say, hey, our site is ready to go. It is shovel ready. And if it works for you, then it works for us,” said executive director for the Development Authority for Burke County, Austin Stacy.
This second round of grants also went to the development authority of Jefferson County and Washington-Wilkes County.
