Great jeans to bathwater: A look at Sydney Sweeney’s most lucrative brand deals

Rising to fame on Euphoria as Cassie Howard and Beatrice in Anyone but You, Sydney Sweeney is no stranger to brand collaborations. But some people have called into question the kind of messages she is putting out. And she doesn’t seem to be shying away from the more risky adverts either. Surely her PR team is be working overtime but you know what they say – all PR is good PR, right?

Here is a quick roundup of Sydney Sweeney’s most lucrative adverts and brand deals.

American Eagle: Sydney Sweeney has great ‘jeans’

If you have seen any advert with Sydney, it’s this one. American Eagle came under fire for “eugenics” and “white supremacy” after she posed in American Eagle denim with the tagline, “Sydney Sweeney has great genes”. The actress then found herself in hot water after internet users criticised her objectification and involvement in white supremacy.

The advert also led to the discovery that Sydney is a registered Republican in the state of Florida. President Trump then praised the advert, stating that it was “fantastic.”

American Eagle has since defended the advert, claiming that “great jeans look good on everyone.” Many internet users still double down on the idea that she is promoting non-inclusive advertising and sizing.

Laneige: ‘Bouncy and Firm’

This advert came out in 2024, after Laneige originally blew up on TikTok for its viral “Lip Sleeping Mask”. At first glance, the advert seems light-hearted, concise and straightforward. Sydney applies the cream, shows us the results. Simple!

However, Reddit users took to socials to criticise how the words “Bouncy and Firm” are plastered across Sydney’s chest in the first few seconds of the advert. Users called it “off-brand” and “unexpected” from Laneige. A Reddit user said “They really act like she’s the first actress to have boobs.”

Laneige or Sydney never responded to the backlash.

Dr Squatch: ‘Sydney’s Bathwater Bliss’

Sydney teamed up with Dr Squatch and released a bar of soap that was infused with her own bathwater. This came after she collaborated with Dr Squatch a year before, and appeared nude in a bathtub. Many comments inquired as to whether they could purchase the water used.

As you can probably tell, Sydney and Dr Squatch jumped on this idea fast and released the soap, which sold out almost immediately, and caused website crashes. Resellers have been seen to sell the soap for almost $200, up from its original price of $8.

Critics immediately bashed Sydney for contributing to her own objectification, and for feeding into the male gaze. However, some people have argued that the entire product draws attention to a deeper issue, highlighting the profit involved in the sexualisation of women.

This was a wild ride between novelty and tongue-in-cheek marketing. At least the soap sold out, right?

From skincare to soap to denim, she knows how to sell—and stir conversation. But love it or loathe it, one thing’s clear: Controversy pays, and Sydney Sweeney’s adverts keep cashing in.
