If you’ve ever wanted to pair your Greggs sausage roll with a pint, you’re in luck.

That’s because the high street bakery chain is launching its first-ever pub, where punters can order beer and classic bakes with a twist.

The Golden Flake Tavern is opening in the Fenwick department store in Newcastle from Saturday, September 27.

There’ll be two exclusive beers available on draft – the Pink Jammie Pale Ale and the Gosforth 1939 Stottie Lager – developed in partnership with Newcastle-based Full Circle Brew Co, plus a Greggs-inspired cocktail menu.

But, naturally, it’s the food that’s going to be the real star of the show.

Customers will be able to choose from a menu of 15 traditional pub dishes, all of which have a Greggs twist.

Think Chicken Bake Parmo, Steak Bake Mixed Grill, Sausage Roll and Mash, as well as a Greggs Ploughman’s Platter.

For dessert you’ll be able to pick between sweet treats such as Yum Yum Bread & Butter Pudding and Pink Jammie Trifle – a dish made with doughnut pieces which are set in jelly and topped with jam, custard and whipped cream.

And what pub menu would be complete without a Sunday Roast? This dish is said to be the ‘piece de resistance’ of The Golden Flake, featuring either a Steak Bake, Chicken Bake or Cheese & Onion Bake as the main with all the trimmings, including cauliflower cheese, roast potatoes and Yorkshire puddings.

What’s more the pub will be hosting a weekly quiz night every Tuesday from October 7 onwards, with tickets for £5 and teams of up to six people.

The pub can seat 88 people at full capacity, with space at the bar as well as tables.

The Golden Flake is the latest collaboration between Greggs and Fenwick, following the Greggs Champagne Bar which launched in 2024 and saw guests enjoy a glass of £425 Cristal with Sausage Rolls.

The two businesses also teamed up for Bistro Greggs back in December 2023, which offered fine-dining interpretations of the bakery chain’s most popular items.

Ahead of the pub launch, Hannah Squirrell, the customer director at Greggs, said: ‘Following the reaction and success of our previous collaborations with Fenwick – Bistro by Greggs in 2023 and the Greggs Champagne Bar last year – we’re thrilled to be launching our third landmark venture together.

‘The Golden Flake Tavern brings a fresh twist to the traditional British pub experience and we hope everyone who joined us before, along with many new faces, will come along to enjoy this unique Greggs experience.’

Those who want to visit the pub for a meal are advised to book in advance, with reservations available from midday on Thursday, September 25.
