Guy Fieri continues to recover from the gnarly leg injury he suffered while filming his new series, Flavor Town Food Fight, back in November.
Fieri, 57, has been in a wheelchair and on crutches for the last eight weeks after tearing his quadriceps muscle on set. In a new update, the Food Network star says he is still a little frustrated with his current reality, but remains on the mend and thankful for what he can do.
Fieri staying patient in recovery
Speaking with PEOPLE on Tuesday, Fieri provided some insight into what his holiday season was like following the injury.
“I’m doing better. It was definitely a trying holiday, but you know what, you get some real appreciation for having the ability to just get up and walk around and do everything you used to,” Fieri told PEOPLE. “I’m a big CrossFit and hiking guy, so eight weeks of no hiking has driven me kind of crazy. But I’m looking forward to it, trying to take it easy.”
In a few weeks, Fieri will be hosting Guy Fieri’s Flavortown Tailgate at Super Bowl LX in California. While he called this experience “the worst thing I’ve been through in the last 20 years,” the longtime chef promised he’ll “be up and ready and healthy and rolling by the time we hit the Super Bowl for sure.”
A freak accident left Fieri sidelined
Fieri was on set for his new program in November when he had a mishap while climbing stairs.
“[I] slipped down a set of steps and one foot went forward and the other foot got caught on the threshold,” Fieri told FOX News Digital at the time. “So, you know, it extended me out. I looked like I was probably doing the splits, but when my right leg compressed into itself the giveaway point and the doctor said he’s never seen—you know, in 20 years—he hasn’t seen a tear in the biggest, thickest part of your quad in half. It sucked.”
Fieri was immediately taken in for surgery and has been hampered since then, though we’re glad to see he is seemingly making good progress.
