Two of Lancaster’s most adored Instagram pages have announced this week that they will be either reducing posts or shutting down altogether due to the admins graduating.
Lancsjokes (@lancsjokes on Instagram) and LancsCrush (@lancs_crush on Instagram) have a combined 8.7k followers and 348 posts, as of the announcements being shared.
It comes four months after the departure of OnlyLancs (@onlylancs on Instagram) sure to graduating the year perviously after reaching the 1,000th post .
LancsCrush is arguably the most wholesome social media account out there, where individuals fill in a Google form to reveal their crushes or tell everyone about a special person in their lives in Lancaster. LancsJokes posts Lancaster and Lancaster University related memes, which are frequently shared amongst students.
Both admins are anonymous, and are choosing to move on from their accounts upon their graduation. The LancsJokes admin posted a heartwarming message of support, encouraging individuals by stating that, “if there is something you want to do in your time at Lancaster, no matter what, how big or small, how ‘cringe’, how scary – please just do it”.
LancsCrush announced their departure on their Instagram story, in which they said: “I’ve given this a lot of thought, I’m so happy with my time in Lancaster and I feel like i’ve completed my journey here and unfortunately, that means LancsCrush for me too.”
They also said that, “its been a really fun part of my time at uni, but it feels right for it to come to an end next month as i start the next chapter of my life xx”.
They finished with: “This also means it’s the perfect time for a new lancs crush to rise! Following in the footsteps of the original LancsCrush Facebook page, who will be next I wonder.”
Alternatively LancsJokes announced their departure in a series of Instagram posts with messages to their followers.

The full LancsJokes statement said: “I have had the best time running this account and am sure I will drop the occasional meme and am hoping to post some advice and my fave lancs places for the new freshers in October BUT I am calling it a day on being a full time memer because I am graduating this year! I am SO grateful to everyone who has followed, shared, messaged (I have enjoyed chatting to some people and actively despised dealing with some of the annoying messages xox) and I am so glad that I randomly decided to just ruddy post something and start this stupid account.”
The account further added: “I feel cringe saying this but I’m gonna do it anyway: I really wanted to run a meme page from about halfway into my first year (dream big guys) but I was so worried that it would go wrong, be cringe, I’d get made fun of if people found out etc. I always felt like the people who were doing them must have some special thing about them that made them not worried about any of those things and hoped I would magically get that too. But it’s not true – the difference between me and them was that they were doing the thing and I wasn’t.”
“The thing that changed was that I just did instead of thinking or planning or imagining. So, I want to put this out there as I hope it would have helped me to start doing this thing I have so enjoyed much sooner: if there is something you want to do in your time at Lancaster, no matter what, how big or small, how ‘cringe’, how scary – please just do it. Uni goes by very fast and there is literally no point in not doing something you feel even 1% interested in doing. I wish I’d not only done this sooner but also not beaten myself up for not doing it sooner etc. as it was a waste of time and energy.
They continued: “I know it sounds silly to talk about a meme account like this lol and it’s not like it has deeply and devastatingly overshadowed by whole life haha but it was a little thing I wanted to try but worried about coming across as cringe just as I’m worried this post will be cringe if anyone is even still reading lolz. So for lancsjokes sakes, please join that random society, go to that random cafe, do the painting, sing the song, wear that outfit you’re not sure about. The only person you need to please is you!”
LancsJokes finished with: “You guys make me laugh so much in the comments and I honestly felt a lot more connected to the community even from my anonymous lair. I’ve had a great time with this account, even when my posts flopped (it was a knife to the heart every time so thanks to all the fake fans for ruining my life) and I’m so grateful to everyone who sent nice messages – I never expected to get messages lol so it has all been a lovely surprise and I can’t say how much I’ve enjoyed it. I just wanted to make 1 person laugh and knowing I did that at least was really nice. I love you all!”
True to their name, LancsJokes cracked one more joke, saying “You made it this far…you have won an admin reveal”. They then went on to feature an image of the Eric Morecambe statue.
