Rumours are circulating that the Miss South Africa pageant has officially cut ties with the Miss Universe pageant. Like we’ve seen with Supranational and Miss World, a new organisation has allegedly obtained the license to operate its own separate competition.
A representative will be sent to the international pageant, which takes place on 21 November in Thailand.
Meanwhile, the Miss SA grand finale will take place this weekend.
MISS SA CUTS TIES WITH MISS UNIVERSE?
According to pageant insiders, a new organisation called Miss Universe South Africa is set to announce its separate entity from the Miss SA pageant.
Earlier this week, reports emerged that Thai pageant guru Poppy Capella was behind the move, which has since been labelled fake news.
Other former South African beauty pageant experts are tipped to be involved.
WHO WILL REPRESENT SOUTH AFRICA?
In a media briefing last month, Miss SA organisers confirmed news that the incoming queen would not have the opportunity to compete at Miss Universe.
A representative said, “This year, Miss South Africa will not be competing at Miss Universe due to the timing. It requires up to three months of planning to go abroad and compete in South Africa.
“It would be impossible…and not fair for Miss South Africa to not get fully prepped for that.”

This year, Miss SA also did not send a representative to Miss World and Miss Supranational, with new organisations taking over as independent license holders.
According to social media commentary, a former Miss SA representative finalist could represent South Africa at the international pageant.
