One of HBO’s most popular shows is finally returning for its third season, and a new glimpse has fans excited for what’s to come.
The network unveiled the highly-anticipated first trailer for season three of “Euphoria,” the drama that helped launch the careers of some of Hollywood’s fastest rising stars. Many of those big names are featured prominently in the new trailer, including Jacob Elordi, Sydney Sweeney and Colman Domingo.
The series also largely focuses on Rue Bennett, played by Zendaya, as she attempts to navigate addiction, grief and more personal trauma. Season three sees the characters after a five-year time skip from the events of season two.
Where Is The Cast in Season Three?
Rue finds herself in Mexico, in debt to the drug dealer she attempted to escape in the previous season. Nate (Elordi) and Cassie (Sweeney) are married and living together, while Maddie (Alexa Demie) is now working at a Hollywood talent agency.
Characters like Jules (Hunter Schaefer) and Lexi (Maude Apatow) are also seen in their new professions and pursuits as the series shifts from its former high school setting.
“The one thing we all agreed on is we can’t go back to high school — although many, many shows have had 30-year-old high school students, we’re not,” said show creator Sam Levinson, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
“Five years felt like a natural place [to jump] because if they had gone to college they’d be out of college at that time.”
Several new cast members will join the show this season, including Academy Award nominee and Golden Globe winner Sharon Stone. Natasha Lyonne, Sam Trammell, Marshawn Lynch and Rosalia are all set to appear, adding to one of the most star-studded casts on television.
‘Euphoria’ Returns After An Extended Hiatus
The show will return to the air after the second season premiered in early 2022. Several factors led to the hiatus, including the busy schedules of the cast. Zendaya, Sweeney, Elordi and Comingo appeared in several major feature films over the last several years, earning acclaim from audiences and critics alike.
The 2023 Hollywood strikes by SAG-AFTRA and the Writers Guild of America also factored into the delay, as many writers and actors refused to cross picket lines until the demands of their respective unions were met.
The cast and crew were also shaken by the death of Angus Cloud, who played the character Fezco in the show’s first two seasons. Cloud’s character was killed in the final episode of season two, but his presence on the show and performance remain important to its story and legacy.
Season three of “Euphoria” is set to premiere on April 12, and the show will be available on HBO and the streaming platform HBO Max.
