Amazon Prime Video’s spin-off of The Boys has paid tribute to Chance Perdomo, after the actor died in a motorcycle accident last year, aged 27.

The Gen V actor died shortly before production was set to begin on the second season, the first three episodes of which are now available to stream.

Ahead of the second season, the show’s producers confirmed in a statement that they would not be recasting his character Andre ‘because no one can replace Chance.’

Instead, they planned to ‘take the time and space to recraft our season two storylines’ in order to ‘pay respect to his legacy’.

Co-showrunner Michele Fazekas has since said that the production had written five episodes worth of Andre’s second season story when Chance suddenly died.

Season two of the superpowered co-eds arrives almost two years after the first and opens with a tribute to Chance, before carefully revealing what happened to his character Andre.

The season one finale saw Andre locked up with fellow students Marie (Jaz Sinclair), Emma (Lizze Broadway) and Jordan (London Thor and Derek Luh) for rebelling against Vought International.

When we return to the world of Gen V, it’s revealed that the gang has been locked up in a Vought-controlled prison called Elmira. While Marie managed to break out, Andre died off-screen during an escape attempt.

When we pick up with the show, Andre’s father Polarity (Sean Patrick Thomas) joins the God U faculty as a professor, looking to find justice for his late son.

Speaking to the show’s tribute to Chance, co-showrunner Fazekas told Deadline: ‘As much as people have lost the real Chance, our people have lost Andre. And what does that look like in a world where it’s superheroes in college and a lot of ridiculous gore and funny?

‘We wanted the season to certainly honour him, and then at the end, we realised the season is about him, everything, and all of the drive comes from him.

‘It is a weird thing to grieve a fictitious character, but we did. You grow to love these characters as much as you love the people who are portraying them. And in some ways, we knew Andre better than we knew Chance.

‘Chance was in Toronto. We spent more time with Andre in a way, and it was like, losing Chance is incredibly unimaginable in a way, but we all were like, “Oh, we also lost this Andre guy we really liked”.’

It’s a move fans of the show have praised, as it allows them to mourn Andre and, by extension, Chance within the realm of the show.

‘Coming up with an insanely brave backstory for his character, almost basing it off of how he was in real life. It truly brings tears to my eyes.’

@movie_charles wrote: ‘Ok Gen V…I get it…You’ll have me crying my eyes out hitting me in all the feels before I cackle like a Madman throughout the rest.

‘This Tribute absolutely touched my heart. Chance Perdomo/Andre looms large & this hit like a Freight Train. FOR CHANCE!!!’

@TheSocialSage1 said that Andre’s fate is revealed in a ‘deeply moving way’, adding: ‘Honouring a beloved cast member through story is a rare kind of heroism in TV.’

‘Gen V is really doing right with the whole loss of Chance/“Andre” in this first episode,’ tweeted @tyswish92.

Gen V is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
