This article contains spoilers for tonight’s Coronation Street, which has not yet aired on TV but is available to watch now on ITVX.
In a devastating turn of events, it looks as though Carla Connor (Alison King) and Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) really are over for good.
We’ve been holding out hope that the couple, who clearly both still love each other, might be able to rekindle what they had, but Becky Swain’s (Amy Cudden) presence has made that an impossibility.
Up until this point, it has been Carla asking for space, desperate for Lisa to see her ex-wife for who she really is.
Unfortunately, Lisa is at a crossroads, having to decide whether to honour her relationship with Carla or Betsy Swain’s (Sydney Martin) relationship with her mum.
Ultimately, Lisa would always put Betsy first, which has meant keeping Becky in their lives.
Unable to put up with Becky’s blatant attempts to break them up – which flew completely over Lisa’s head until Carla decided to record one – Carla decided to leave.
However, in tonight’s episode, the tables turned, as Carla returned to No.6 and confided in Betsy that she still loved Lisa and wanted to be there for her.
Despite the fact that Lisa had initially been the one begging Carla not to go, tonight she told her that they couldn’t get back together.
She pointed out that they had both seen the worst of each other and couldn’t come back from that, and though Carla disagreed, Lisa put her foot down.
She later explained to Betsy that she couldn’t continue having the same argument with Carla over and over again, and that they needed to let each other go.
Heartbroken, Carla took off her engagement ring and decided to take a solo trip to Lanzarote, but not before making one more attempt to link Becky to DI Costello’s (Daon Broni) attack.
However, her visit to his bedside proved futile, and she headed to the airport without so much as a goodbye.
Unfortunately, it was after Carla had left that Lisa decided she didn’t want to spend Christmas without her, and by that time Carla wasn’t answering her phone.
Over the festive period, things are set to take a worrying turn when Lisa gets a text from Roy Cropper (David Neilson) Christmas Day.
As she learns that Carla never checked into her hotel, Lisa can’t help but worry.
Is Carla okay? Could she have decided to leave the Swains and Weatherfield behind for good? Or is something more sinister at play?
