Here is the chilling reason Charlie Kirk’s memorial is being held in a stadium

Charlie Kirk’s memorial is set to take place this Sunday, and the scale of it has already raised some eyebrows.

Kirk was shot dead last week while speaking at Utah Valley University. He was rushed to hospital by his security team but later died from his injuries. Within 48 hours, a suspect, 24-year-old Tyler Robinson, was arrested following a 33-hour manhunt.

Now, thousands of people are preparing to gather at State Farm Stadium in Phoenix, Arizona, home of the NFL’s Arizona Cardinals, for Kirk’s memorial. His organisation announced the service, which is open to the public, though attendees must register online with their details. Former president Donald Trump is also expected to attend.

But with tensions still running high online and security concerns mounting, some are questioning why the memorial is being held in such a huge venue.

According to security specialist Will Geddes, there’s a chillingly practical reason. Speaking to LADbible, Geddes explained that a stadium setting offers a controlled environment that makes it harder for attackers to strike.

He said: “The venue itself will have its own security. I would hope there would be sufficient turnstiles, search points, security gates and checkpoints to ensure that people cannot bring malicious items in. Having it in the stadium is intentional — it minimises threats from overlooking buildings or rooftops.” Kirk’s shooter is believed to have been spotted on the roof, so they want to avoid a similar attack.

Geddes also estimated security for the event could cost over £10 million. With high-profile guests expected, layers of protection will be required for both the VIPs and the tens of thousands in attendance.

“It’s a very good idea in theory,” Geddes added. “You’ve got everyone comfortably accommodated, and whatever they’re going to do will be seen and celebrated by everyone.”

The stadium, which has a retractable roof, could be closed off entirely for the service, making it even harder for any outside threat to penetrate.

Kirk’s wife, Erika, broke her silence over the weekend with an emotional tribute on Instagram: “If they thought my husband’s mission was big now… you have no idea.”
