Here’s how to submit your 10 best films of the 21st century in the viral ballot

There’s a new viral film trend, courtesy of the New York Times – and the publication has opened a readers ballot for anyone to submit their 10 best films of the 21st century. If your social media feeds are anything like mine right now, you’ll see that people are sharing the 10 films they’ve selected that have been released since 2000 to go into a big NYT ballot vote – but it can be quite complex to find where you need to do it. The New York Times is slowly drip feed releasing its own editorial list of the team’s 100 best films of the 21st century, but there’s also an open ballot for us lowly people to submit our own picks. So yes, that means you can indeed nominate Scooby Doo, Cats and Madame Web. It’s a bit complicated trying to find how to do it, so here’s a handy guide if you’re lost and want to join in the viral trend.

The readers ballot is what you’re after

If you click here, you can get to the page you’re after which lets you vote for your 10 best films of the 21st century in the New York Times ballot. You can’t just crack on and do it though, you need to first set up a free account. You don’t have to subscribe to the NYT subscription model to submit your 10 films, which is good.

And that’s all you need to know! May I present to you in full my 10, because I know you’re dying to see it. First in was Kill Bill Vol 1 – which I wish could have been the full both films saga but I didn’t want it taking up two slots. But it’s my favourite pair of films of all time, so it was an easy choice. Aftersun was next because I’ve never cried so much in my life. Past Lives and The Worst Person in the World also made the cut for their tearjerking prowess and immeasurable beauty.

Horror end of the spectrum flanked with Luca’s perfect Suspiria remake which doesn’t try to emulate the original. Black Swan because it’s f*cking Black Swan! And The Witch, because it gave us Robert Eggers.

Lady Bird because it’s so joyous, and the animated picks speak for themselves. Have fun picking your own!
