No winners were recorded in the most recent Powerball drawing this week, and that’s great news for everyone still playing. The jackpot will continue to rise as the game rolls on, and a massive sum is in store for a potential winner on Saturday night.
The next drawing for one of the country’s largest lottery events will include one of its most lucrative jackpots, and one lucky winner could be days away from a life-changing victory.
Wednesday’s drawing was the 36th consecutive round without a grand prize winner, as the last person to claim such a victory did so back in May. That person’s winning ticket was worth $204.5 million and they claimed it in the state of California.
How Much Is The New Jackpot?
A grand prize winner on Saturday night could bring in an estimated $700 million. Powerball says that a winner would be able to choose between the full jackpot in annual payments over 29 years or a one-time cash payment of $316.3 million before taxes.
No players matched all six numbers on Wednesday night, but there were winners. A player in Tennessee hit five of the numbers and also had the Power Play option, and they walked away with a $2 million prize. Two other players had five numbers, winning $1 million each.
30 players had tickets with four of the winning lottery numbers and the Powerball itself, and they each won $50,000. Eight of those winners were able to double their prize by opting for the Power Play option like the player in Tennessee.
Where Does The Jackpot Rank?
The estimated $700 million prize would be the highest of the year, but only the 11th-largest Powerball jackpot in history. Last year’s top spot went to the $1.3 billion jackpot claimed by Oregon’s Cheng “Charlie” Saephan. A winner in California claimed more than $500 million this year for the second-highest jackpot of 2025.
The Multi-State Lottery Association, which oversees and runs the Powerball lottery, noted that the jackpots have predictably increased player engagement and ticket sales.
“As the jackpot increases, we expect ticket sales to increase,” said the organization, noting a 40% increase in ticket sales year-over-year to this point of the calendar in 2024.
One thing that hasn’t increased? The extremely long odds players face when it comes to winning the Powerball grand prize. Players have roughly a 1 in 292 million chance to walk away with the top prize, astronomical odds to say the least.
If no one claims the top prize on Saturday night, the drawings will continue and the jackpot will also continue to grow.
We’ll see if a new multi-millionaire is crowned this weekend, or if they’ll have to wait a few more days for an even larger prize.
