Ginny and Georgia is a distinctly American show, but the drama they endure is highly relatable. Well, some of it.
The relationship between mother and daughter is a messy one, filled with ups, downs and everything in between. Don’t get me started on the rest of the show’s characters.
They’re all so different, so here’s a rundown of every Ginny and Georgia character as a Russell Group uni.
Ginny – University of Manchester

via Netflix
Something about Manchester just really says Ginny to me. Ginny screams English literature and so Manchester just gives that poetic edge. Walking through Fallowfield in the autumn (or fall for Ginny) and getting inspo for creative writing. Not sure how high her grades would be though, because those poems are… interesting to say the least.
Georgia – University of Oxford, until she dropped out

via Netflix
A huge part of Georgia’s character is that she’s this vibrant, charming, underdog who will make whatever choices she needs to survive. She is very proudly self-made, having dropped out of school extremely young.
The University of Oxford is equally as bold and unapologetic. I’m talking parties, breaking rules and getting into trouble, all the while getting away with it and being insanely smart in the process.
Hunter – Durham University

via Netflix
Despite his lofty aspirations, Hunter is ultimately deemed too goofy for Oxbridge and find solace in sharing these experiences at Durham. He is akin with Durham and its strong theatre roots, with both loving to perform.
Max – Newcastle University

via Netflix
Underrated, overlooked, kind of far away from Manchester (giving Abby, Ginny, and Norah even more excuse to leave her out), Newcastle just makes sense for Max. With a vibrant theatre and comedy routine, Max matches the vibe of a busy city and would probably benefit from a bit of space from ANG. Plus she screams English and drama and like Durham, Newcastle has space for the creative arts to thrive.
Zion – UAL

via Netflix
Something about UAL just screams Zion – probably because it has a good photography course and because I could imagine him strolling around London. That said, his parents wouldn’t be happy with just little old UAL. They’d definitely prefer something more solid, or perhaps even something serious like the University of Law.
Marcus – University of Salford

via Netflix
While Marcus is another character that would probably not go to university, the idea of Marcus being a kind of rogue uni a mile away from Ginny is quite funny. It’s easy to imagine him strolling around Manchester city centre after bussing in from Salford with the sole aim of seeing Ginny in the street somewhere while also never contacting her. When asked what he’s doing with his life by literally anyone, he will reply “I will not clarify.”
Abby – Manchester Metropolitan University

via Netflix
Abby as toMan Met just makes sense – especially if Ginny is also the University of Manchester. I can see them vibing with Fallowfield too. Maxine will probably try and arrange to visit but they’ll “just not get around to” properly inviting her.
Norah – University of Birmingham

via Netflix
Ah Norah, the most irrelevant character in the entire show. Considering how little we actually know about Norah, it’s difficult to place her nicely. Another red brick university like Manchester, Birmingham has a slightly similar vibe while also being a medium train distance away, representing how Norah is secondary to the ANG subgroup.
Gil – University of Sheffield

via Netflix
Right I’m sorry if you go here because Gil is the WORST, but something about Gil being the University of Sheffield just makes sense to me. Sheffield’s a solid but understated choice for someone looking to blend in while quietly plotting his next villainous move, all while pretending to be a charming, successful guy. I promise this has nothing to do with my personal, one-sided vendetta against the University of Sheffield.
Paul – University of Exeter

via Netflix
Paul is definitely Exetahhh – a prestigious yet slightly less showy choice than Oxford or Cambridge, perfect for a polished, ambitious politician who still enjoys dropping a few names over a glass of fine wine at a fancy dinner party. It just makes sense.
Bracia – UCL

via Netflix
I don’t care what anyone says, Bracia is a ridiculously underrated character out of every Ginny and Georgia character as a Russell Group uni. She’s an extremely good friend, intelligent, and brilliantly talented. Although she’s a great performer it just makes sense for her to be a top uni and get involved in drama on the side, and London has a brilliant theatre scene and loads to do in general.
Sophie – Newcastle University

via Netflix
It makes so much sense for Sophie to randomly be the same university as Max. Except she’s exactly the kind of person to drop out of stuff due to indecisiveness and then randomly reappear again the next year. She’d probably sign up to be in the same plays as Max too… perfect with the 100mph chaos of Newcastle.
