Season three of The Summer I Turned Pretty is nearly over. But if you can’t wait until the final episode, here’s a rundown of exactly which character everybody ends up with in The Summer I Turned Pretty books.
Now, the author Jenny Han has suggested the show might not end in the exact same way as her books. But this list gives you a pretty good sense of where everybody could be headed (and saves you from actually having to read the books).
The Belly, Conrad and Jeremiah triangle
Spoiler alert: Belly chooses Conrad. Soz to the Jelly shippers. The main narrative of the final book We’ll Always Have Summer ends on the morning of Belly and Jeremiah’s planned wedding. The epilogue tells us that over the next two years, Belly and Conrad grow closer again, then get married.
The show has already expanded on this part of the book, though. Belly never goes to Paris in the book. So Belly and Conrad’s ending might be a little different.

In the epilogue, we see Jeremiah has moved on with another girl. The book says: “I look out the window, and there is Jere across the lawn. He has his arm around his date, and our eyes meet. He gives me a small wave. I wave back and blow him a kiss. He smiles and turns back to his date.”
Steven and Taylor
Erm, I’m sorry everyone, but Steven and Taylor don’t end up together in the final The Summer I Turned Pretty book. They do kiss in the first book, but their relationship doesn’t go anywhere.
Taylor has lots of casual relationships. She dates Jeremiah’s frat bro friend Redbird at any point. By the end of the final The Summer I Turned Pretty book, Taylor is just living her best single life.

We remain hopeful

Steven isn’t a very big character in the first two books. His romantic life doesn’t come into the books. Steven doesn’t date Denise in the books, either. She helps plan Belly’s wedding, but doesn’t get involved with any of the relationship drama. So, we don’t know who Steven is dating by the end.
Adam and Kayleigh
Er, so Adam is still a cheater in the books. Like in the show, he had an affair with his secretary Kayleigh while his wife was suffering from cancer and going through chemotherapy. What a great guy. In season three of the show, Adam makes his relationship with Kayleigh official. She helps plan Belly’s wedding.
This is all a bit different in the books. Adam was never serious about Kayleigh. The relationship finishes long before Adam would be able to introduce Kayleigh to his kids.
John and Laurel

Did anyone ask for this?

We were all pretty shocked when Belly and Steven’s parents, John and Laurel, slept together in season three. This doesn’t happen in the books. It’s pretty clear that their relationship is done. Belly eventually realises that her parents were unhappy together because they rushed into marriage when they were really young, and loved the idea of stability more than they actually loved each other. Their romantic past is supposed to mirror Belly’s relationship with Jeremiah, and show Belly what not to do.
But if Belly’s ending is different, then John and Laurel’s relationship won’t need to make the same point, so the writers could do something different with them?
