The Milwaukee Brewers are playing the Los Angeles Dodgers in this season’s NLCS. The winner of the series will advance to the World Series, representing the National League.
The Dodgers, who won the World Series last season, are looking to return to the Fall Classic yet again. The Brewers haven’t appeared in the World Series since 1982, the franchise’s only appearance to date.
One of the NBA’s best young stars is a Wisconsin native, but fans following his team during the NBA preseason have noticed a theme in his choice of outfits.
During the NLDS, Indiana Pacers star and Oshkosh native Tyrese Haliburton was spotted wearing a Chicago Cubs jersey, just as the Brewers played the Cubs in that series.
Ahead of Game 3 of the NLCS, Haliburton added more fuel to the fire by showing up to the Pacers’ most recent preseason game in a Dodgers jersey. By now, it’s clear that Haliburton is choosing to root for whoever plays his home state Brewers, but why?
Haliburton’s Milwaukee Brewers Beef
During an appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show” earlier this year, Haliburton broke down the reason for his (lack of) Milwaukee Brewers support.
“I mean I’m not really welcome in Wisconsin as much these days. Packers and Colts…you know the 49ers, my boy [fellow Iowa State Cyclone Brock Purdy] is the QB over there, kinda got a couple teams. Baseball, I’m a free agent,” Haliburton said.
“I was a Brewers fan, and then I was supposed to throw the first pitch last summer and they X’d that after the playoff series.” Haliburton’s Pacers knocked the Milwaukee Bucks out of the 2024 playoffs in the first round, and he ruffled some feathers in the Brewers’ game entertainment division.
What’s Next For Haliburton and His New Team?
“So I said, you know what? I’m no longer a Brewers fan. We’re a free agent, and we’re looking for a new team at this point,” Haliburton explained.
If he sticks with the Dodgers, he may be able to witness a World Series championship. Los Angeles currently leads the best-of-seven series against Milwaukee 2-0, and the series could end as soon as Friday night. The Dodgers were able to win both games on the road, and will head home with the chance to close out the series in a sweep.
Haliburton will likely be sidelined for the entire upcoming NBA season after tearing his Achilles in Game 7 of the NBA Finals. When he returns to the court, expect Milwaukee to be one of the places where he receives a less than hospitable reaction from the home fanbase.
