Terrifier fans will be able to tune into the film that kicked off Art the Clown’s reign of terror this Halloween.

The beloved and bloody horror franchise has consistently broken records, with the third and most recent film becoming the highest-grossing unrated film of all time and the highest-grossing film in the Terrifier franchise to date.

Terrifier 3 grossed more than 40 times its budget, making it one of the most profitable films of 2024, and it hit the number one spot in several countries during its opening weekend.

Fans of Damien Leone’s films will be able to see where they all began when All Hallows’ Eve 1 and 2 come to Shudder on October 1.

Released in 2013, the anthology horror film All Hallows’ Eve is the first appearance of Art in a feature film, tying together three short stories in one terrifyingly gory movie.

A synopsis reads: ‘While babysitting two children on Halloween, a babysitter finds a VHS tape in one of their candy bags. The tape contains three horror stories, linked by a killer clown. As the night progresses, strange things happen in the house.’

In the 2015 sequel, which does not feature Art, follows a woman who finds a VHS tape on her doorstep telling ‘a series of gruesome tales that could be real.’

‘But the true danger is in the pumpkin-faced killer that’s using the tape to find his next victim,’ the plot continues.

Following the success of All Hallows Eve, Leone launched a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo to finance Terrifier, a feature-length spin-off revolving around Art.

Released in 2016, Terrifier sees Art (David Howard Thornton) terrorise Tara Heyes (Jenna Kanell) and her friend Dawn (Catherine Corcoran) after they leave a party and run into him in the streets of Miles County.

Stranded after someone slashes their tyres, Tara calls her sister Victoria (Samantha Scaffidi) to pick them up and ventures into an abandoned building to use the bathroom – a decision the three women would come to regret as Art unleashes his unique brand of violence upon them.

Leone began work on Terrifier 2 in 2019 and secured funding from private investors as well as a second crowdfunding campaign, which amassed a whopping $250k (£191k) with a $50k (£38k) target – 430% more than expected.

Terrifier 2 was released in 2022 and achieved success like no other film in the franchise, earning $400k (£306k) on its opening day in the US.

A third Terrifier movie was announced shortly after, with Art returning to Miles County five years after the events of Terrifier 2 to hack and slash across the Christmas period.

And once again, shortly after the explosive success of Terrifier 3, a fourth film was announced that will supposedly be the last of the franchise.

Currently in development, Leone has teased what fans can expect from the upcoming film, including Art’s origin story and a surprising influence on its style.

‘Once I wrote Part 2, I decided to really start telling the story,’ he told Collider. ‘I wanted to tell it almost in a Lynchian way. I could never be on the same level as David Lynch. He’s one of my heroes.

‘But I love the way he tells stories, and they’re very abstract. He doesn’t give you answers. If he ever tried to articulate, it would trivialize and diminish the beauty of what he’s done as an artist.

‘His voice is his work. He’s not supposed to just tell you what he did.’
