She may have only been back scheming for a few months, but Gemma Bissix has filmed her final scenes as soap superbitch Clare Devine, who Metro can confirm will make an explosive exit as part of Hollyoaks’ 30th birthday celebrations.

Fans were delighted to welcome Clare back to the soap, undoubtedly a highlight of the soap year, and she quickly proved to be as malicious and evil as ever.

That won’t change in coming weeks as her long-standing feud with Tom Cunningham (Ellis Hollins) builds to spectacular levels.

While we’re sworn to secrecy over how Clare goes and whether the door remains open for her to come back in the future, we can promise that a character of this magnitude won’t be going quietly.

And with the scenes already filmed and Gemma having had a farewell party with the cast and crew, fans won’t have long to wait before they find out how the latest chapter in her saga ends.

‘Gemma has absolutely loved being back but a character like Clare can never stick around for too long, given everything she’s done.

‘There’s a lot more to come before the final scenes air but it promises to be an exhilarating ending.

‘Fans may be disappointed to hear that she is going so soon but it also is likely to come as little of a surprise given the nature of the character and the storyline.

‘Her comeback has proven to be a real success and a pivotal part of the build-up to the 30th, and a real representation of what Hollyoaks does best when it comes to iconic characters.

‘She’ll be a huge miss!’

Are you excited for Hollyoaks’ anniversary?

  • No – it doesn’t sound up my streetCheck

The news comes after it was revealed that James Sutton is also set to step down from his own major role in the show.

John Paul McQueen is expected to leave in an ‘explosive’ storyline next year, 20 years after he made his debut.

It is also likely that we will say goodbye to a number of characters given that the anniversary has promised a spectacular and deadly stunt.

But there are a number of familiar faces expected back in the village, not to mention a Brookside crossover and a late night special that will bring back Warren Fox and Theresa McQueen.

It’s going to be one of the show’s biggest ever autumns, it seems! And with Clare Devine at the heart of it all, how could it not be?
