Hot and dry conditions are expected in Gauteng – Bundlezy

Hot and dry conditions are expected in Gauteng

According to the South African Weather Service, Gauteng residents can expect a sweltering day with temperatures reaching up to 30°C in Johannesburg.

Meteorologist Mpho Rasimphi said the province will see “fine weather in the central and northwestern areas” but warned that high fire danger remains a concern.

“Johannesburg is expecting a maximum of 30°C, and the dry conditions make the region vulnerable to runaway fires,” Rasimphi explained.

Fire Danger and Safety Warnings

The forecast includes a fire danger warning across several parts of the country, including Gauteng. Strong winds combined with high temperatures create conditions that could fuel wildfires.

Rasimphi noted, “interior winds and heat can make driving difficult for small and high-sided vehicles, especially when visibility is reduced by smoke.”

The South African Weather Service urged motorists and residents to remain cautious. Fire services are on alert, particularly in the northern parts of the province where conditions are most severe.

Nationwide Weather Overview

While Gauteng faces extreme heat, other regions will also experience brutal weather. The Northern Cape, Free State, and Northwest face damaging winds, while the Eastern and Western Cape remain partly cloudy. Coastal areas such as Port St Johns will peak at 25°C, while Durban is expected to reach 24°C.

Do you think Gauteng is adequately prepared to deal with the risks of high fire danger during this dry and windy season?
