Celebrity Traitors ended on a mammoth cliffhanger last night, as the fates of Mark Bonnar and David Olusoga hang in the balance.

The BBC One game of wink murder made show history last night, when a roundtable ended in deadlock for the first time ever.

The celebrities gathered were split between voting off Line of Duty actor Mark and TV history buff David, both of whom received the same number of votes from their fellow contestants.

Host Claudia Winkleman then announced that the roundtable absolutely had to end in a banishment, so they proceeded to a second round of voting with only Mark or David in the running, and both of them without their own vote.

After pleading their cases – during which David seemed slightly more convincing, but Mark looked the more dejected – the celebrities once again etched names onto their chalkboards, only for the votes to be split a second time around.

Claudia informed the celebs that this was indeed the first time such a thing had happened, telling Mark and David that ‘their fate will be decided by chance’.

The tense episode ended on an (almighty unfair) cliffhanger, which saw Claudia leave the roundtable room after telling those gathered: ‘We will leave this banishment to the hands of fate.’

So what on earth could that mean? Well, we don’t know what the game of chance will be because, to reiterate, it has literally never happened before.

Although it did come close in season two, when Diane, Ash and Brian all received the same amount of votes, and Claudia mentioned the game of chance back then too.

Yet we doubt the show, which is for the entertainment of us viewing public, will go for something as simple as a coin toss.

What it’s likely to be is a set-up akin to the challenges, so outside the castle, with a game that will see Mark and David go head-to-head.

What we’re imagining is something along the lines of the Deathmatch card game played on the regular civilian Traitors earlier this year.

That saw Fozia eliminated after playing with fellow contestants Alexander, Leon and Anna, who had been elected by the Traitors.

The Celebrity Traitors continues tonight at 9pm on BBC One.
