It’s one of the cardinal rules of soap land: secrets rarely stay buried for long, and in tonights EastEnders, a massive secret blew up in a very public way, when Kat Moon (Jessie Wallace) revealed to Vicki Fowler (Alice Haig) (and a pub full of quiz-goers) that Zoe Slater (Michelle Ryan) had been lying and Dennis Rickman (Nigel Harman) isn’t the father of her son.
Zoe previously claimed that Sharon Watts’ (Letitia Dean) late husband and her own former lover had fathered the twins she’d given birth to while away from the Square, though she revealed the truth last week to a horrified Kat.
Having learned of Sharon’s wealth shortly before she told her that Dennis was the father, it seems she used the knowledge to target Sharon, who immediately agreed to fund the search for the missing child, who Zoe had given up for adoption immediately after giving birth to him and his tragically still-born sister.
Sharon, while stating there would be no friendship between the pair, agreed to help locate Zoe’s son.
With Sharon having left the square after she joined forces with Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth) to give Vicki a break following the hideous attack she suffered at the hands of Joel Marshall (Max Murray), Zoe stole cash from Kat to pay her newly hired private investigator.
Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) payed Vicki a visit at the top of todays episode, desperate to find out where mum Kathy was. Vicki explained that both Kathy and Sharon are annoyed at he and Harvey Monroe (Ross Boatman) for taking Ross Marshall (Alex Walkinshaw) in after Vicki ended kicked him out.
Vicki explained to Ian that she’s deeply worried about Sharon, who’s attempting to obtain DNA from Dennis’ daughter to aid the search for Zoe’s son and ploughing massive amounts of money into it. Ian, guilty over having offered Ross a place to stay, offers to pay toward the search.
After shaken Kat discussed Zoe with Alfie Moon (Shane Richie), she tried to convince her daughter to come clean to Sharon but was met with fierce resistance.
Later with the pub quiz in full force, with team Beale (Ian, Harvey and Peter Beale (Thomas Law) clashing vocally with team Peacock (Elaine Peacock (Harriet Thorpe), Johnny Carter (Charlie Suff), Callum Highway (Tony Clay) and Anna Knight (Molly Rainford)), Team Fox (Denise Fox (Diane Parish), Kim Fox (Tameka Empson) and cially Howie Danes (Delroy Hugh Atkinson)) and a woefully lonely Vinny Panesar (Shiv Jalota) representing Team Panesar-Unwin, Ross tried to talk to Vicki.
Hearing Vicki tell Ross that there’s right and wrong with no in between, Kat was visibly shaken, and more so when Vicki told her just how deeply invested Sharon has become in finding Zoe’s boy.
Just as Kat was about to spill the tea, Zoe came downstairs, and angrily demanded her to stop. Kat was undeterred, though, and told Vicki of Zoe’s lie.
As Alfie and Ian burst into the back room, it was apparent that the entire pub had heard the revelation, and aware that her scheme had failed, Zoe crumbled.
Where does Zoe go now? What will Sharon do when she learns the truth? Who is the father of Zoe’s boy?
