A human leg discovered on a beach in South Ayrshire two weeks ago has been linked to a body found in a coastal part of Northern Ireland in May.

The limb was found on Prestwick beach on June 10, prompting Police Scotland to launch an investigation.

Now, the force has said the remains are those of ‘a missing person from outside of Scotland’.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) has said the remains of a man whose body was found in Millisle, County Down, have been identified.

Glasgow Live reported that the Prestwick beach discovery is understood to be linked to the body found in Northern Ireland.

Anne Porter was last seen leaving her home in Jersey in October last year, when she was thought to have been heading to the local beach, Greve De Lecq.

Her disappearance triggered a major search, with the coastguard, fire crews and lifeboat teams all scouring the area for any sign of her.

But after eight months, Jersey Police confirmed her remains have been recovered.

DCI Mark Hafey, who led the investigation, said: ‘Remains were located on a beach in Brighton, which have now been confirmed as a DNA match with Anne. Our thoughts are with her husband, family, and friends.’
