The Faithful have the edge for wins on the civilian series – with Harry Clark the only cloak-wearing contestant to bag the prize money – but one Traitors alum thinks this series will even the playing field.
Wilf Webster lost the inaugural BBC run right at the bitter end, but in an interview with Metro he has thrown his backing behind this series’ red-faced successor Stephen to win.
The turret conclave is playing ‘a really good team game’ and Wilf commended Rachel as an otherworldly Traitor who has shielded Stephen from banishment, but he believes it will only be so long before the dapper-dressed cybersecurity expert surprises us all by planting a dagger (not the new double-vote one) in his chum’s back.
‘He’s such a lovely person and we love him, but I think that’s going to be the big shock factor,’ Wilf told us.
In an apparent nod to the fact that Stephen has been the least Traitor-like of this year’s Traitors, Wilf clarified: ‘I don’t think he’s got the ability to go out there and plant seeds and get rid of Rachel at all.
‘I think somebody else will and he will join on the bandwagon towards the end, like I did with Amanda.’

Meanwhile, Rachel has managed to cloak herself in the halo effect, putting herself beyond any real suspicion. Wilf is astounded by the game she’s played.
‘I have never seen somebody with so much social clout and power,’ he said, speaking to us on behalf of Mecca Bingo. ‘When people open the envelope [on Uncloaked] and they see Rachel’s name, they all are shocked.
‘That just shows how powerful she is… She’s leading the charge against the Faithfuls, getting it wrong and people are just going, “Yeah, all right.”
‘People just don’t believe it’s her. It’s a really strange dynamic in the castle at the moment; they’re just going for random people.’
But that doesn’t mean Rachel won’t eventually be an object of mistrust, even if the Faithful are ‘clueless’. Watch out for the inevitable moment the herd announces: ‘We have to start looking at everyone.’ Wilf says that could be her downfall.
There is one Faithful he thinks has the potential to unmask the Traitors, and you won’t be able to guess who it is before I tell you they have an impressive pair of sideburns.
‘All we see is James floundering around, running around,’ says Wilf. ‘But I think he’s a very intelligent person and some of the things that he says, I like.’
Despite the haphazard Faithful performance, Wilf wouldn’t trade his series for a spot on this one, deeming it too twist-laden, with the secret Traitor, double-vote dagger and chapel confessional among this year’s changes.
If he is proven right about Stephen’s potential Judas move, it will be another sizable turn to add to that list.
The Traitors continues on BBC One and iPlayer on Wednesday at 8pm.
