August was a busy month at Acadia National Park, its busiest in 36 years.
According to data from the National Park Service, Acadia National Park drew 842,827 visitors last month. That’s up 45,797 from July. Acadia National Park’s main attraction, Mount Desert Island, had the vast majority of visitors. The largest island off the coast of Maine features the picturesque Park Loop Road, Cadillac Mountain, and Jordan Pond House.
It’s no surprise that Acadia National Park’s busiest time of year is the summer months of July and August, as data has shown that those are the two busiest months every year.
Data obtained by Maine’s WMTW reveals that the famed national park’s busiest year ever was 1989, when 5,440,952 visited. The park has only topped 4 million-plus once ever since, when 4,069,098 visited in 2021.
Acadia National Park has not seen this many visitors in a single month since August 1989, when 1,045,060 visited.
Dubbed the “Crown Jewel of the North Atlantic Coast,” Acadia National Park features 60 miles of Maine’s picturesque coastline, 33 miles of scenic roads, 158 miles of hiking trails, and 45 miles of carriage roads.
