The general director of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), Zoé Robledo Aburto, highlighted the implementation of a new modality of night consultation in family medicine units.
This is as part of the “2-30-100” strategy that seeks to expand care coverage and make the most of the installed capacity of the Institute.
During his participation in the morning conference, Robledo explained that this initiative arose from surveys and comments from the rights holders themselves, especially in Quintana Roo, where many people work in the tourism sector and find it difficult to attend consultations during regular hours.

“Family medicine consultations on weekends or at other times were very rare, and that is what we want to bring today: a new type of night-time care”he indicated.
Night consultation program in Cancun
The program began in the municipality of Benito Juárez (Cancún), with three Family Medicine Units—one in the north, one in the south and one more in the “Héroes de la Salud” unit— where since last May 2, 4,873 nightly consultations have been granted.
According to Robledo, this modality is part of the IMSS effort to make medical services more efficient and flexible according to the needs of workers.
“It is about making more use of the installed capacity and adapting to what is most appropriate and comfortable for the beneficiaries themselves,” he pointed out.

The head of the IMSS also reported that, so far this year, 1 million 305 thousand 431 scheduled surgeries have been performed, which represents a progress of 65% with respect to the goal set, and 22.6 million specialty consultations (73% progress). Meanwhile, family medicine consultations total 81.6 million, with 106% use of the offices thanks to the opening of new shifts.
The “2-30-100” strategy contemplates reaching 2 million surgeries by 2025, 30 million specialty consultations and 100 million family medicine consultations, thus consolidating more accessible and continuous medical care for the eligible population.
