Mexico City. – With the arrival of the traditional Day of the Dead holiday, most mayors began operations to clean the common areas of the pantheons civilians, however, in mayoralties such as Iztapalapa, Miguel Hidalgo and Azcapotzalco, Their governments continue to neglect their cemeteries, which also lead the figures for the theft of bones.

According to data from the local Prosecutor’s Office (FGJ CDMX) from 2020 to 2025, 35 complaints of bone theft have been registered.

In Miguel Hidalgo that governs Mauricio Tabethere is the Civil Pantheon of Dolores, the largest in the entire capital. In its vast extension, in recent years it has faced constant looting of bones and even open tombs are visible, as well as demolished chapels despite the fact that the administration of the demarcation during dates such as the Day of the Dead orders cleaning operations. Regarding complaints about the theft of bones, between 2020 and 2025, there were 18 investigation files accumulated, most of them in the Dolores pantheon.

Azcapotzalco It is the third mayor’s office with the greatest abandonment in cemeteries, mainly in the Civil Pantheon of San Isidro. Its entrance appears to be an orderly place, but in its side corridors and in the second half of it, remains of chapels and tombs are visible. Piles of brush and gravel are piled up at the intersections of the corridors. In the surroundings of San Isidro, there are also the pantheons of San Juan Tlihuaca, San Pedro Xalpa and Santa María, which despite being smaller also show similar neglect.
