Yesterday, an Air India flight from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick tragically crashed shortly after takeoff. Out of the 242 people on board, only one passenger survived. The rest, including passengers and crew from different countries, lost their lives.
Here are some of the passengers confirmed to have been on the flight.
The Nanabawa Family

Akeel Nanabawa, his wife Hannaa Vorajee, and their daughter Sara Nanabawa were British nationals from Gloucester. They were on a surprise trip to India when the crash happened. Their family described them as “widely loved and deeply respected,” and the community has been left heartbroken.
Adam and Hasina Taju, and Altafhusen Patel
This London-based family included Adam and Hasina Taju, aged 72 and 70, and their son-in-law Altafhusen Patel, 51. They were returning from Ahmedabad. Their granddaughter spoke of the shock and grief felt by their family and friends.
Fiongal and Jamie Greenlaw-Meek

A married British couple, Fiongal and Jamie ran a wellness centre in London. Just before boarding, they shared lighthearted moments on social media, unaware of the tragedy ahead.
The Syed family
Javed Syed, his wife Mariam, and their two young children were from west London. Mariam worked at Harrods, and Javed was employed at a hotel. The family’s loss has deeply affected their community.
Ajay Kumar Ramesh
Ajay was seated next to his brother Vishwashkumar Ramesh, the only survivor of the crash. While Vishwashkumar managed to call his family after the accident, Ajay’s whereabouts remain unknown.
Vijay Rupani

Rupani’s death was announced by Union minister and Gujarat BJP president C.R. Paatil on Thursday.

The former chief minister of Gujarat state, Vijay Rupani, was also on the flight. He served from 2016 to 2021 and was a member of the BJP party.
Singson
A member of the cabin crew, Singson was the sole breadwinner for her family, which includes her mother and brother. They said they were “wholly dependent on her.”
Raxa Modha and Rudra Modha

Raxa Modha and her two-year-old grandson Rudra, from Northamptonshire, were travelling back for a memorial service for Raxa’s late husband, who passed away earlier this year.
The Joshi family

Dr. Prateek Joshi, a consultant radiologist from Derby, was travelling with his wife Komi Vyas and their three children: Twin boys Nakul and Pradyut (both five) and daughter Miraya (eight). The Derby Hindu Temple paid tribute to the family’s memory.

Two sisters, Dhir and Heer Baxi, were returning from a surprise visit to their grandmother’s house. After the “young talents” died, their family and friends said that “everything has vanished” in their world.
Nirali Sureshkumar Patel

Nirali Sureshkumar Patel was a dentist from Mississauga, Ontario. She was the only Canadian on board. As reported by Canada Press, her husband said, “That was my wife. I am not in a state to speak right now.”
