A powerful eruption occurred over the weekend at Taal Volcano in Batangas, Philippines over the weekend, and there’s incredible footage that’s going viral on social media.
The volcano, located just south of Manila, erupted on Saturday. Numerous videos show a cloud of black smoke shooting to the sky as high as 7,000 feet. Some footage captured from a nearby river shows the intensity of the eruption, which triggered an alarm that sent residents scurrying for cover.
According to the Philippine News Agency, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) recorded one phreatic and two phreatomagmatic eruptions at the volcano. The phreatic eruption lasted about a minute.

On Monday, PHIVOLCS said the eruption also triggered 33 volcanic earthquakes.
While there have been no reports of injuries or damage caused by the eruption, local officials have reportedly warned residents within a 4-kilometer radius to remain evacuated, while those in a 6-kilometer radius are advised to stay vigilant.
Authorities have also reminded residents and tourists that entering the Taal Volcano is prohibited due to its unpredictability and possible hazards from volcanic gases and ash emissions.
