An influencer has gone viral after revealing she got an entire United Airlines flight cancelled because she ate a dodgy burger and couldn’t leave the plane’s bathroom.
Megan Reinertson, who has over 100k followers on TikTok, was flying from Portugal to Indianapolis almost a year ago when the unimaginable happened. She had completed her first flight from Faro to Libson and was on the second leg from Lisbon to Newark when she felt her stomach start to turn.
“I wake up about 30 minutes from the New York airport. I’ve been asleep for a solid five hours. I wake up to a disturbance deep, deep within my bowels,” she explained in a TikTok video that’s had over 20 million views.
“And by disturbance, I don’t mean like, oh my god, this is an emergency land the plane in the water. I just mean like, something is brewing. Something is happening that I am not prepared to deal with in the next two hours where I have to get through the hour-long customs line, get my bag, change terminals, recheck my bag, go through security, you know, the whole drill.”

She got off the plane and made it to the boarding gate for her final flight from Newark to Indianapolis. Her stomach was really cramping at this point, but she didn’t have time to go to the bathroom, so she got on the flight and “hoped for the best”.
“I get on this flight. I’m in my little window seat. I sit there and spend the next 30 minutes in agonizing pain. I’ve never felt anything like it in my life. I am just full-body sweating. I’m crying. My insides are cramping. I can only imagine that that is what a contraction feels like,” the influencer recalled.
She got up to go to the bathroom even though the seatbelt sign was on and was in there for almost two hours. The woman goes into more detail in the video, but let’s just say it wasn’t pretty. At one point, she even had to open the door and call the flight attendant for help because she needed sick bags. And lots of them.
They got clearance from the pilot for her to stay in the toilet while they landed because she literally couldn’t leave. When the flight landed, everyone got off the plane and she still couldn’t exit the bathroom. So, they had to cancel the whole next flight.

“Everybody is off the plane now. Go ahead. Honestly, feel free to take your time. Just come out whenever you can. The next flight has been cancelled,” she recalled the flight attendant saying to her from outside.
“In the moment, I’m not thinking that’s cause of me. I’m like, oh, thank you, God, what a gorgeous coincidence. Me being in the bathroom for two hours couldn’t possibly cause this plane to get this next flight to get cancelled.”
It wasn’t until the flight attendant said someone in a hazmat suit had to come and clean the bathroom that she realised she was the reason they’d cancelled the whole flight.
People are saying it’s their “worst nightmare” in the comments, with one person writing: “The smell… the embarrassment. I feel so sorry for you and everyone on the plane. Literally my worst nightmare.”
“Getting clearance from the pilot to land with you in the bathroom is wild. I’m so sorry that happened to you,” said another.
