Dominique Elissa, a wellness influencer hailing from Australia, has recalled the moment her sauna exploded into flames in what honestly sounds like a scene from Final Destination.
If you’ve watched literally any of the Final Destination films, you no doubt see potential dangers in even the most mundane things. Trips to theme parks have been ruined, nail guns give us nightmares, and now we all have a pathological fear of driving behind a logging truck. Though Final Destination is, of course, a work of fiction, Dominique experienced something which she herself called “a horror movie.”

life is so fragile, mum was definitely making sure I didn’t get in that sauna. #grwm #neardeathexperences #gratefultobehere #lifestory
In a TikTok post that has since garnered nearly 100k views, Dominique Elissa detailed how, while staying at an Airbnb in Byron Bay, Australia, she had a near-death experience. Having used the Airbnb sauna the day before, Dominique turned it on to heat up while she made dinner.
“I thought, I’ll just cook dinner quickly and then go in in 40 minutes, which is what you do for a lot of saunas. You let them heat up,” she said in the video. “I finish eating dinner, and I’m about to put my swimmers on to go in the sauna, and I hear ‘Boom!’ And I look up. The entire sauna exploded.”
She estimated that the explosion itself reached a height of 10 to 15 meters, or about 32 to 49 feet, before power to the building went out and she was left panicking as her phone battery slowly died.
“I am screaming, ‘Help! Somebody help me!’ Like it was a horror movie,” she added.
Once her “shaking” hands were finally able to contact the emergency services, three fire trucks turned up to tackle the “huge fire” that had been created by the exploding sauna.

“It was the most horrific thing to experience, because I was a few minutes from going into that sauna.”
Thankfully, Dominique Elissa was unharmed in the sauna explosion, though she did grapple with a lot of anxiety afterwards. She was able to complete the wellness retreat she was in the area for, and is now looking to speak to a therapist about her brush with death.
“I’m so grateful to be alive. So grateful to be here. I was a few minutes from being in that sauna,” Dominique concluded. “My life lesson to you is that life is fragile. You have no idea what curveballs life is going to throw at you. It’s how you react that matters.”
Truly scary stuff, should the producers of Final Destination Bloodlines need any inspiration for the next film.
